RSPV For The - January 17, 2007 --- Planning For The Future- Unity in the Developmental Disabilities Community

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities cordially invites you to attend the "Planning for the Future – Unity in the Developmental Disabilities Community" summit to be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008. The meeting will be held in Tampa, Florida at the Downtown Convention Center, 333 South Franklin Street. An agenda is enclosed for your review. The purpose of the summit is to bring key legislators, policy makers and stakeholders together to provide a public discussion on where we have been and where we are going – hopefully, together.
The Agency has undergone a huge transformation in its service delivery system in the last few months. A spiraling deficit caused by increased service utilization in the Home and Community Based Services waiver, coupled with a shrinking state revenue base and legislative initiatives, have created uncertainty and confusion among stakeholders. Many people are asking "what’s next?" Misinformation abounds!
This informative event will include an update on the state’s revenue forecast and its impact on APD’s budget. Senator Ronda Storms, Chairman of the Senate Children, Families and Elder Affairs Committee, and Representative Bill Galvano, Chairman of the House of Representative Healthy Families Committee, will give their perspectives on potential legislation impacting the developmental disabilities community. APD staff will review recent changes in service reductions and eliminations; the assessment process and the impact of the budget deficit on future services.
Stakeholders will be represented at a "Round Table" discussion of pressing issues of the day. Public input will be taken throughout the meeting. This will be an enlightening day you will not want to miss! Please call Jennifer Silva (850) 922-7733 in the APD Legislative Affairs Office to RSVP no later than December 21, 2007, as seating will be limited. Brown bag lunches will be available for $19 person plus tax (sandwich, chips, drink) so let her know if you prefer this option or lunch on your own.

If you are coming in early, a block of rooms has been reserved under APD for the night of the 16th at the Hyatt Place Hotel, 4811 West Main Street, (813) 282-1037. Be sure to tell them you are with the APD group by December 27, 2007. Share this invitation with your DD friends and families and I look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
