IMPORTANT APD MEETING SCHEDULE: WAIT LIST, HCBW, CDC+, iBUDGET, MCKAY SCHOLARSHIPS, etc.

Below you will find announcements that APD has posted in the Florida Administrative Weekly regarding public meetings that will be held across the state to review topics such as CDC+ expansion, the flexible services benefit and individual budgets. The meetings begin August 25, 2009, and conclude September 22, 2009. Please note that separate times are scheduled for providers and consumers and families.

.APD announced several meetings for presentations of information about agency goals and initiatives such as the CDC+ expansion, the flexible services benefit, and the development of a plan for individual budgeting (“iBudget Florida”) and opportunity for the public to provide comment.

.The Agency for Persons with Disabilities announced two workshops to solicit public input to be used in developing a rule for the process and procedures for prioritizing the wait list for enrollment on the Developmental Disabilities Home and Community Based Services Waiver.

.The Agency for Persons with Disabilities announced a hearing August 27, 2009, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon at the Department of State, R. A. Gray Building, 500 South Bronough Street, 1st Floor, Auditorium, Tallahassee, Florida 32399 in order to give affected persons an opportunity to present evidence and arguments concerning the proposed adoption of Rules 65G.4.0021, 65G-4.0022, 65G-4.0024 and 65G-4.0025, F.A.C. .The Department of Education announced a rule development workshop for 6A-1.0943 Statewide Assessment for Students with Disabilities to update statutory references, update procedures related to the administration of statewide assessments for students with disabilities, revise criteria related to participation in statewide alternate assessment, and establish procedures for exemption from participation in the statewide assessment when extraordinary circumstances occur. .The Department of Education announced a rule development workshop for 6A-6.03012 Exceptional Education Eligibility for Students with Speech Impairments and Qualifications and Responsibilities for the Speech-Language Pathologists Providing Speech Services and 6A-6.030121 Exceptional Education Eligibility for Students with Language Impairments and Qualifications and Responsibilities for the Speech-Language Pathologists Providing Language Services. This rule will address evaluation and eligibility procedures for students suspected of having a speech impairment; revise procedures consistent with current practices in the field; and clarify the responsibilities and qualifications for speech-language pathologists providing speech services. .The Department of Education announced a hearing for 6A-6.0970 John M. McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Program to clarify and establish specific participation adherence for parents and private schools as related to the John M. McKay Scholarship program by requiring a signed parent affidavit affirming parental compliance with the program. Additionally, this rule amendment will clarify private school requirements as related to the return of scholarship funds and allow the Department the authority to conduct private school on-site inspections, as appropriate, in conjunction with a formal complaint.
