Transportation guide

United We Guide is a free transportation and information guide for seniors who are interested in the variety of transportation options offered throughout St. Johns County.

This guide, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation, is available through One Call for Mobility. Contact the mobility manager at the Council on Aging,315-6505, or email Katie Arnold at karnold@stjohnscoa.com.

The Council on Aging announces a Travel Training program designed to assist seniors in learning to ride the Sunshine Bus. If you are curious about expanding your transportation options or you would like to increase your confidence as a bus rider, let one of our trained volunteers assist you in navigating routes, reading time tables, and making transfers. Van service

Round trip van service for veterans to the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, is now available. The van, provided by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, will leave no later than 6:15 a.m. from the VA Clinic, Old Moultrie Road. The van is not equipped to transport wheelchair patients. Drivers needed

Volunteer drivers are needed to assist seniors in achieving their mobility goals in St. Johns County. Transportation needs range from trips to the grocery store and classes to spousal hospital visits or social activities. Call 315-6505 or email karnold@stjohnscoa.com.


Memory course

The Council on Aging has partnered with Christ Episcopal Church to offer a Memory Enhancement Program in Ponte Vedra.

The program will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Tuesdays and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is designed for individuals who have been diagnosed with memory disorders or who are concerned about memory changes and offers family members the chance to enjoy a few hours free from care-giving responsibilities.

This is an on-going class designed as a comprehensive series of activities and exercises that stimulate and activate diverse mental functions. The curriculum includes information about aging, strategies to improve mental abilities and specific exercises designed for seniors. All classes are presented at a slower pace in a supportive, light-hearted atmosphere.
