November 15th is Autism Walk a thon in Orlando

They are doing a walk in Orlando for Autism at the Disney Sports Arena in Walt Disney World on November 15, 2008. Anyone can volunteer to walk or raise money thru a group to sponsor the cause. We will be there for the 3rd year volunteering to help out. They use the volunteers for giving water out, registrations, parking area, etc. They have a resource fair around the track they all walk on. The walk is about 2 miles but you can walk the distance that your body can do. They do not care how far you walk just walk and show the support. I can not due to medical problems with breathing so I go and do registration or help with the collecting of funds for the walk. The registration starts early that morning like around 6:30 am for volunteers. The walk starts when everyone is there for the opening ceremony which usually is about 8:30 am. They have several walks in the Florida also ....Tampa has a walk a thon in early begining of the year and it is at MOSI on Fowler Ave across from the USF Campus. We again do the late registrations that are not submitted on time the nite before and take the funds that are donated and turn over to the accounting dept. We have done this one last year and will be volunteering for many yrs to come. It is alot of fun too. You get to meet so many people from Hillsborough County area and find out how they deal with Autism and thier child. They also have a resource fair inside MOSI and you get free admission into MOSI for the day if you are with the Walk Group. The fair is inside the building throughout the grounds.

So why not try some volunteering for a great cause and have fun do it...... Even my son Jimmy sits at the table in his wheelchair and we all get fresh air and meet alot of people and this will be our second yr and their second annivesary of this Walk a thon too. They raised alot of money for this area doing it for research and other events. Lots of sponsors too show for the fair. You get a T-Shirt and bracelet to wear.
